Design Age Institute – UK’s strategic unit for design in the healthy ageing economy.

The Design Age Institute, is where creativity, innovation, and joy come together to tackle the exciting challenges of an ever-aging population!

They are not your average institute; they are a vibrant community of designers, businesses, researchers, and enthusiastic individuals all on a mission to make the world a better place as we age gracefully. They firmly believe that design has the power to transform lives, and that’s precisely what we’re here to do!

Forget the stereotypes about aging; we’re all about living life to the fullest and embracing the wisdom that comes with it. Our unique approach involves amplifying the voices of people as they age, giving them the platform they deserve to influence positive change in society.

But we don’t stop there! We’re also dedicated to building a marketplace that caters to the needs and desires of our older population. Whether it’s developing new products, services, or even redesigning existing ones, we’re always up for the challenge!

Our research, products, and services are aimed at helping people stay in the workforce for longer and enjoy an extra five years of healthy and happy living!

So, join us in this exhilarating journey as we redefine what it means to age happily and gracefully. Let’s design a future where every moment is filled with laughter, love, and endless possibilities!

Design is everywhere. Good design, we don’t notice so much. It quietly goes about doing the job we want done.

Bad design, however, we notice.

The vast majority of design is still based on a negative and medicalised view of ageing. No wonder we don’t want to engage with these products as we face some of the possible challenges of later life.

We need to design products, services and environments. That are not only useful and usable, but also desired by the intended users. We need to stop designing as if older people are some other. Indeed, they are your friends, family, and will be you one day, if you are lucky.

The time has never been more pertinent for industry to start designing, and producing products, services and environments that not only solve the problems faced by older people, but solve them in a way that those people want them and in a way that brings joy into their lives.
